In most all cases this website lists the width first then the length.
18 x 21 x 5 = 18' wide by 21' long by 5' leg/post height (8'6" Peak Height). We always use the width as the first measurement and it is always the open end with NO posts that you drive into.

Gable Ends
We can install gable ends on your carport front and/or rear.
Side lean tos can be added to your carport. Go to metal barns to look at lean tos.
We can install side openings into the length as well. The bad boy below has the 45* trim kits on the garage door openings.
To enter the carport from the side, we install a welded header and move the posts to each side of the opening. $200.00 per opening for side entry.
Carport Anchoring:
Rebar anchors are included with your purchase if the carport is installed on the ground/dirt. We consider rebar anchors to be temporary and not heavy duty. We recommend purchasing mobile home anchors or installing concrete around the rebar anchors.
Concrete anchors are included with your purchase if the carport is installed on concrete. 1/2" by 6" wedge anchors. If your carport is installed right on the edge of your concrete, the wedge anchor can split the concrete and break the edge. If this happens you will need to switch to ground anchors. You can make your concrete pad a few inches bigger than the building to help prevent the concrete from being to weak on the edges.
Optional Anchoring
Mobile home ties downs are available for an extra cost. We recommend using these if your carport could be exposed to high winds. The more wind the more anchors you need. Spacing can be every 10' to a closer spacing of every 5'.
In certain areas we offer concrete ground supports for taller carports and / or high winds.
Customer Provided Anchoring - For Special Installs.
If you want to build your carport on a deck or dock, you can attach the carport with wood lag screws. 1/2" x what ever length you need to get into solid wood to hold the carport down. Customers provide these and the appropriate wrench and drill bit to install them. Make sure the drill bit is not too big (fat). For these to hold, only a starter hole is needed. The anchors must bite the wood.
Carriage Bolt's can be used to attach the carport to metal or other type surfaces. Customers must provide the correct bolts and washers and any installation tools needed.
METAL BRACING:
All carports come with 4 - 2' corner braces. You can buy more 2' braces for each leg or you can get longer 3' braces. 3' braces are recommended for carports 8' and taller if going on dirt and 9' and taller if going on concrete. Braces help to make the carport more solid.
Heavy duty corner bracing package.
Corner Brace
Metal Tubing:
We offer two Galvanized Frame thickness option's:
Metal Bows and Frame spacing:
Standard spacing between the frame bows can vary from 5' to 3' depending on the state built in, the carport size and style ordered. Extra frame bows can be added to increase the snow and wind loads.
Snow Bracing and Roof Trusses:
All carports up to 24' wide come standard with center snow braces.
All carports wider than 24' come with roof trusses.
Roof trusses can be added to smaller carports for an additional cost.
Extra bows and legs can also be added to any size carport.
Screws:
Metal carports components are welded at the factory and then assembled on site with screws. In the past we used colored screws. We now only use galvanized metal screws with heavy duty washers.
Carport Base Attachment:
All carports are built on a frame rail. The frame rail is anchored to the ground. The carports base frame rail runs the length of the carport.
Steel Sheeting:
Metal Carports come standard with 29 gauge steel paneling.
In some cases we can upgrade the sheeting to 26 gauge for 30% more in cost. We do not normally recommend this. The 29 gauge does the job just fine.
